WWF publishes draft trout and salmon aquaculture standards for comment

In July and August WWF published draft standards aimed at minimising the potential negative impacts of freshwater trout and salmon aquaculture.

The standards were developed in dialogues organised by WWF and involving a wide range of people from around the world. These included representatives of fish feed producers, for example Skretting in the salmon dialogue.

The draft standards can be found on the WWF website

The first comment period for the freshwater trout standard closes on 27 September and for salmon on 3 October. In both cases a second comments period will begin approximately two months later. The intention is to have final standards around the end of the year. Comments are invited from all people concerned in, and about, aquaculture of these species.

“We have come a long way and are excited about the progress that has been made in creating the standards,” says Trygve Berg Lea in Skretting, a member of the nine-person Steering Committee that manages the Salmon Dialogue process. “The Steering Committee is eager to get feedback during this comment period as this will help us revise the standards and wrap up the process.”
