AquaVision 2016 underway

14 June 2016

AquaVision 2016, the 11th edition of the world business conference on aquaculture, was officially opened today in Stavanger, Norway, by Knut Nesse, CEO of the Executive Board of Nutreco.

Welcoming a fully-booked conference, comprising more than 375 delegates from 35 different countries, including many top decision makers from the aquaculture industry, Nesse highlighted that aquaculture is the most efficient form of livestock production. Furthermore, through the flexible use of feed ingredients, the industry has become a net fish protein producer, providing food with a relatively low carbon footprint.

Nesse also called on the aquaculture industry to play its part in responding to the global megatrend of antimicrobial resistance (AMR), and urged cross-collaboration across the entire aquaculture value chain to reduce the use of antibiotics.

The World Health Organisation (WHO) forecasts that annual deaths attributable to AMR will increase from its current level of 700,000 to 10 million by 2050.

“Part of the answer will come from preventative health and innovative health solutions,” said Nesse. “As leaders, it’s our responsibility to react.”

The theme for AquaVision 2016 is ‘Meeting Tomorrow Today’, with the programme dividing into two parts:

  • The Blue Revolution
  • Beyond Tomorrow

Over the next two days, expert speakers from all continents will share their insights, opinions and visions relating to the expansion of the global aquaculture industry with AquaVision delegates.

AquaVision is taking place in Stavanger, Norway, 13-15 June 2016.
