Newest engagement initiative - AquaScience
19 August 2015
This year Skretting Australia developed a new initiative called AquaScience. AquaScience is an innovative forum for mangers, technical staff and operational staff working in the aquaculture industry. It is an opportunity to gain a greater understanding of the latest nutritional developments for aquaculture, including ingredients, feed products and feed technologies.
On the 11th August in Hobart, 35 people from the Tasmanian Atlantic salmon industry attended AquaScience. We repeated the event on the 14th August in Nelson, NZ, where 25 people from the local NZ King salmon aquaculture industry attended.
Skretting Australia invited several guest speakers:
- Dr Leo Nankervis, Team Leader Salmon Nutrition at Skretting ARC;
- Dr Charles McGurk Manager Fish Health, Skretting ARC;
- Professor Eckhard Witten, University of Ghent, Belgium; and
- Travis Rankin, General Manager Nuseed Australia
Positive feedback was received by all that attended. Particular highlights were Prof Witten's latest research on spinal malformations and Dr Nankervis' presentations on the latest fish oil studies. We also gave the opportunity for our locally sponsored PhD students in Australia and NZ to present their initial research findings to the industry.
This research update was appreciated by the industry members as these projects were designed specifically to answer local challenges in salmon farming.
Skretting is planning to run AquaScience on a biennial cycle.
