Skretting Australia’s strong work culture has been recognised when it was named a Tasmanian Employer of Choice for 2016 at an awards ceremony last week.
Judges for the award advised that over the last three years, Skretting Australia has put in place a very successful values based cultural improvement program that has resulted in significant business performance gains. The judges noted that it was clear that all staff understand the broad purpose and direction of the business, as a result of the cascading annual planning cycle, the open communications, purposeful strategic team building, and leadership development program. They went on to note that values and behaviours are part of daily life at Skretting – from training to performance planning, from safety, health and wellbeing to career pathways. Staff were empowered to make changes, have critical conversations and innovate and that they are currently examining skills gaps and also re-inventing lean manufacturing principles so they can be applied to people and culture development.
Steven Booth, our longest serving employee with nearly 40 years of service, led the a team of 10 people from across the business to attend the awards night and share our achievement with other award winners. “This has always been a good business to work in, but being a part Skretting is about finding ways to make it even better. We never stop.”
Applicants for the awards are assessed by a panel of judges who visit the company and look at all areas of workplace culture and employee relations. Importantly they interviewed employees directly during this process.
James Rose, Managing Director, accepted the award from the Tasmanian Minister for State Development, on behalf of all the Skretting Australia team. “This award recognises all the work that everyone has put in to build our workplace. We are passionate about our business and have a shared vision of our future that we are working to realise. We can hold our heads high knowing that this award acknowledges that we have a great workplace with a great team.”
