Skretting Aquaculture Innovation (AI): Where science meets industry

The Skretting Aquaculture Research Centre (ARC) was founded in Norway in 1989 and in 2021 adopted the name Skretting Aquaculture Innovation (AI). Our team works both at the headquarters in Norway and at satellite research stations located in Norway, Chile, Ecuador, China and Italy.

Skretting AI drives the development of innovative and sustainable solutions that respond to the demands of an ever-evolving aquaculture industry. We conduct scientific research that results in new products and sustainable solutions, supported by digital tools and Skretting's extensive innovation ecosystem. In addition, we invest in strategic areas with a medium and long-term impact on our operations, such as proteins of cellular origin.

Skretting AI has strong partnerships with academic institutions and industry partners, and is positioned as one of the most attractive work environments for world-class researchers and marketers. Our purpose is to strengthen Skretting's leadership in innovation within the industry and actively contribute to our mission to Feed the Future.

Delphine Crappe at Skretting's The Bubble
The Skretting Bubble, based in Stavanger, Norway, adds pioneering radical technologies to our R&D facilities. Here, we test and develop radical methodologies focused on biology and biochemistry.

At our pilot-scale feed technology plant (FTP) in Stavanger, Norway, we explore the latest production technology, new feed formulations, and potential raw materials. We produce sample batches of prototype feeds and supply a wide range of experimental feeds to our research stations and cooperating research institutes for further optimisation.

The Skretting AI laboratory in Stavanger, Norway, is an internationally-accredited aquaculture lab where we conduct precise measurements of the nutritional value of our feed components and evaluate the composition, performance, and quality of our products with the help of NIR calibrations and state of the art equipment and methodologies.
Lerang RAS facilties
The Skretting AI Lerang Research Station in Norway is one of the most advanced aquaculture research facilities in the world, and specialises in increasing the performance of salmon. Lerang serves as Skretting AI’s trial execution competence centre and also houses our RAS knowledge centre.
Skretting AI Guayas research station
Our world class Skretting AI Guayas Research Station in Ecuador is fully dedicated to shrimp farming to further expand our knowledge of shrimp nutrition and health, and to apply this intelligence on-the-ground in one of the global seafood economy’s most important shrimp producing regions.
Feed plant in Pargua
The Skretting AI Pargua Research station in Chile conducts research focused on salmon and trout, and is home to state of the art recirculation systems with full environmental control for salmon and trout.
Kagoshima facilities
The Skretting AI Kagoishma Research station in Japan specialises in yellowtail kingfish and red sea bream and is located within the premises of Kagoshima University, offering a unique advantage of combining academic competence with our knowledge and network.
Mozzecane research facilities
Feed advancements for freshwater trout are assessed in Skretting AI Mozzecane Research Station in northern Italy.

Preparing for tomorrow's growth areas

An essential part of our innovation work is identifying and prioritizing areas with the greatest potential for future growth. To do this, we systematically analyse trends that could influence our operations in the medium and long term. This approach allows us to go beyond the current boundaries of our company and explore promising fields of research or sectors not yet included in our portfolio.

A prominent example of this vision is The Bubble, our in-house biotech research lab. In this space, we develop and test disruptive methodologies focused on biology and biochemistry, allowing our team to lead the advancement of aquaculture research and actively contribute to defining its future.
