What does it actually mean to produce feed for aquaculture?

From sustainable raw materials to high-performance nutritional solutions

The production of fish and shrimp feed is a complex matter. Strict criteria regulate the physical quality of the pellets, and sophisticated process equipment is needed. Raw material procurement is a major cost driver, so a significant part of research on aquaculture feed production aims to increase both the flexibility and functionality of raw materials.

Any improvement in product technology leads to better quality, greater efficiency and a more sustainable process. Skretting produces more than 2.5 million tonnes of food every year, which means that even small improvements can add up to big numbers.

Creating the Best Diet Formulation

Precise calculations of the protein, fat, carbohydrate, vitamin, and mineral content of all our ingredients allow us to formulate foods that meet the nutritional needs of each species and the life stage for which they are intended. This ensures that they achieve optimal health and growth performance, and also meet the specific requirements of each customer.

Our Products

Selecting the right raw materials

We do our best to make sure that all ingredients used in our food come from responsibly managed sources. Each raw material undergoes a thorough evaluation and approval process before being transported to our plants.

Responsible sourcing

Our Production Process

Using sophisticated processing systems and technical expertise, the different ingredients are ground to precise particle sizes and then mixed according to the very specific formula of each diet. Water is added to make a paste and this mixture is then subjected to an extrusion process. We produce a variety of feed sizes, from less than 1mm to more than 20mm. The pellet is then dried and oil is applied. All finished foods are carefully evaluated in our laboratories and must be approved before packaging and transported to our customer.

Distribution Logistics

From our production plants, finished products are loaded onto ships or trucks and then transported to our customers in big-bags, sacks or via bulk delivery. Sophisticated multimodal transport systems are in place to ensure that the right food arrives directly to customers' farms according to their expectations.
