Responsible sourcing
Responsible production and consumption require us to look beyond traditional aspects of cost and quality when making purchasing decisions. At Skretting and Nutreco, we have identified the relevant sustainability issues in our Code of Conduct for Business Partners. With ingredients that provide a large proportion of our footprint, our purchasing team is focused on minimising the impact wherever possible.
Skretting conducts a systematic assessment of the sustainability risks linked to primary sources of feed ingredients and the manufacturers of feed ingredients. Based on the results of these risk assessments, the combination of the primary source and the feed ingredient manufacturer must be assessed and approved before a Skretting company can purchase the feed ingredient.
Transparency and trust
Our approach is to create transparency and trust between the different stakeholders we interact with in the value chain, which is important in a world where consumers are increasingly concerned about the food they eat. Therefore, our sustainability commitment considers the protection of human and animal health as the center, and we choose to work with partners who share our vision that responsible sourcing not only has an economic side, but also in relation to environmental protection and social development, including human and labor rights.

How we work with our suppliers
All of our suppliers are required to accept and comply with the Business Partner Code of Conduct. Supplier sustainability audits focus primarily on countries and ingredients that have been identified as "high risk." Skretting currently has approximately 1,300 ingredient suppliers located around the world.

What it takes to be a Skretting supplier
Producing high-quality food starts with sourcing the right high-quality ingredients. To make sure that our ingredients are of the right quality, we engage in a high level of cooperation with our suppliers.
For new ingredients and new suppliers, it all starts with a mandatory approval process that aligns ingredient quality criteria with our own quality criteria.
For this initial assessment, we require potential suppliers to provide us:
- Product data sheets such as a component data safety sheet and certificate of analysis
- Acknowledgment of our Nutreco Code of Conduct for Business Partners
- Completed Skretting questionnaires, such as manufacturer and supplier questionnaires, which provide information, e.g. E.g. on HACCP procedures

Responsible sourcing policy for marine ingredients
To protect the ocean and ensure that fish stocks intended for direct or indirect human consumption are caught within clearly defined sustainable limits, Nutreco and Skretting have published a new responsible sourcing policy that will be used as a practical guide to decide what type of marine ingredients can be sourced for their global operations.
