Supporting individuals and communities
We believe in supporting the local communities in which we operate. This support can include helping schools, community development projects, or supporting local industry by participating in the development of local sources of feed materials. We believe in empowering people in our local operations so that they can in turn empower local communities.
Our policies and practices aim to create economic value in a way that also creates value for local society. Many farmers in developing markets are smallholder farm owners who use basic farming and aquaculture methods. A major challenge in feeding a growing world population in a sustainable way is improving the productivity and sustainability of their farming methods.
In local community development programs, we partner with local governments, NGOs, universities, and other businesses to share our knowledge and expertise.
Making Catfish Ponds in Nigeria More Profitable for Fish Farmers
Since 2015, we have been working with Nutreco on the Catfish Sustainability Project (CSP) in Nigeria, working to improve the production, profitability and environmental sustainability of catfish farming in the Ibadan region, while empowering smallholder farmers to lift themselves out of poverty.

Giving back: Skretting Vietnam takes kids to school
For the ninth consecutive year, in 2019 Skretting Vietnam continued the Skretting school programme. The team delivered nearly 1,200 gift packages to children in more than 10 agricultural provinces across the country, along with local government officials, customers, teachers, and students. This year, the gift package included backpacks, notebooks, pens, water bottles, and hats to ensure the children had the necessary materials for their new school year.
The programme is not only about giving gifts and games, but also about raising awareness of the environment among parents and children, with the gift packages delivered being made from recycled Skretting feed bags.
"This is an annual activity for Skretting Vietnam to show our commitment and support to Vietnamese farmers and local communities," says Van Thuy, Marketing and Communication Director for Skretting Vietnam. "This initiative fits perfectly with our purpose of 'feeding the future'."
Training and employment for girls and young women in Egypt
In 2019, Skretting Egypt collaborated with the Sawaris Foundation for Social Development and the Dutch embassy to train and employ 400 women and girls. At Skretting Egypt, participants were trained in quality and laboratory analysis, production process, purchasing, sustainability and how we live our values at Skretting.
The project has a key focus on promoting girls' rights to education and skills development. Eight Skretting employees were involved in the project in 2019, including Managing Director Ayman Rostom.
