Our sustainability strategy

At Skretting, we are committed to delivering sustainable products and services. That begins with sustainable sourcing and is focused on achieving the best results towards animal health and farm productivity. This is part of our overall commitment to good citizenship towards all our stakeholders, and especially our employees, the communities where we operate, and the developing world.

In 2012 we defined our sustainability strategy to 2020. Now that we are reaching its conclusion, we look to the future and ensure our sustainability ambitions remain aligned with our overall strategy and ambitions, and a changing planet.

As part of our process, we conducted a materiality assessment which resulted in three strategic pillars. The core of our sustainability focus is embedded in nutrition and welfare, much like our business itself. This is followed by respect for climate and circularity principles. Finally, a responsible company must perform with care for the societies we operate in; we are accountable for our best practices in good citizenship towards our external and internal stakeholders.

    Our commitment:

We commit to the Science Based Target Initiative to align with the 2015 Paris Agreement and prepare for a lower-carbon future. In addition, we are committed to responsibly managing natural resources, biodiversity, and ecosystems in the production of our compound feed ingredients. This involves implementing practices that protect and enhance the health of our ecosystems, ensuring that our operations do not contribute to deforestation, habitat loss, or other forms of environmental degradation.

    Our approach:

    • Do what it takes to reach our Science-Based Targets commitment in 2030
    • Work with our supply chain to obtain accurate footprint data for the ingredients we use, and make sure that the footprint of these ingredients are reduced over time
    • Use renewable electricity where possible.
    • Implement LCA metrics in feed formulations, in the innovation stage-gate process, and in procurement (as part of Scope 3 for Science-Based Targets)
    • Develop foot printing capacity in our farm and formulation models to help customers measure and reduce their emissions
    • Achieve third party verification of core LCA tools in place
    • Connect LCA metrics to internal data systems for automated products and corporate footprint calculations

    Some of our results:

    • Reduced scope 1 and 2 emissions with 35% compared to 2018, and scope 3 with 10%
    • Have become 100% free from coal 6 years before our initial deadline
    • Managed to reduce customers’ feed conversion ratio by 10-30% through Skretting 360+, a package of innovative tools and services brought to farmers in several regions
