Do feeds contain growth hormones or antibiotics?
Skretting feeds do not contain growth-promoting hormones. Antibiotics are not used as routine feed ingredients or to promote growth.
In markets where medicated feed is legally permitted, antibiotics may be included only under the applicable veterinary and regulatory requirements, typically following a prescription for the treatment of a diagnosed bacterial disease. Rules and availability vary by country.
Medicated feed must be produced, supplied and used under defined controls. Where required, a withdrawal period must be observed between treatment and harvest to help ensure that residues remain within the applicable legal limits.
Responsible antibiotic use means using treatment only when necessary and as prescribed. Disease prevention and health management can also involve good farming practices, vaccination where available, biosecurity, appropriate nutrition and veterinary oversight.
