Is aquaculture controlled?

Aquaculture is governed by national and, in some regions, regional requirements covering areas such as farm approval, animal health and welfare, environmental impacts, feed, food safety, traceability and veterinary medicines. The rules and level of oversight vary by country, species and production system. Voluntary certification schemes may provide additional requirements and independent verification within their defined scope, but they do not replace applicable regulation.

As part of this regulated value chain, aquaculture feed must meet the requirements that apply in each market. Skretting supports compliance through Nutrace, our company-wide programme for feed-to-food quality and safety. It brings together ingredient and supplier approval, production controls, finished-feed checks, traceability and procedures for investigating irregularities. Testing and monitoring are risk based, reflecting the ingredient, supplier, origin, intended use and applicable requirements.
