Is it safe to eat farmed fish and shrimp?
Yes. Farmed fish and shrimp produced for human consumption must meet applicable food-safety and production requirements. Food safety is managed across the value chain, from feed and farming to processing, transport, retail and food preparation.
Feed is one part of this system. Through Nutrace, Skretting applies ingredient and supplier approval, production controls, finished-feed checks, traceability and procedures for investigating irregularities. Requirements and traceability information vary by ingredient, supply chain and market, but these controls help identify and manage feed-related food-safety risks.
About Nutrace
Nutrace® is Skretting’s company-wide management programme for feed-to-food quality and safety. It brings together ingredient and supplier approval, production controls, finished-feed release, traceability and procedures for investigating irregularities across our operations.
Raw materials and suppliers must meet approval requirements relevant to the ingredient, source and intended use. Approved materials are monitored using risk-based procedures that may include document review, sampling, laboratory analysis and supplier audits. The type and frequency of checks vary according to the material, supplier and identified risks.
Traceability systems connect feed batches with available raw-material, production and delivery records. This information supports investigation, follow-up and, where required, product withdrawal or recall. The level of origin information available varies between ingredients and supply chains.
