Crown Princess of Sweden speaker at AquaVision 2018
5 June 2018
HRH Crown Princess Victoria of Sweden will speak on the topic “The Ocean Challenge and SeaBOS” at the international aqua culture conference AquaVision in Stavanger, Norway on June 13 2018.
The Crown Princess praises initiative to save the ocean
Crown Princess Victoria is an Advocate for the UN Sustainable Development Goals and has a strong personal commitment to healthy and sustainable food. She has chosen to focus on work relating to the sea and fishing. The UN Sustainable Development Goal number 14, “Life below water”, is aimed at conserving and sustainably using the oceans, seas and marine resources for sustainable development.
SeaBOS – a global initiative to protect oceans
SeaBOS is a collaboration that marks the first time companies from Asia, Europe and US have joined together to stop overfishing, illegal catch and the use of slave labour in fisheries. SeaBOS will also work to find new alternatives to marine species for input to aquaculture feed, fight fish diseases and reduce antibiotics within aquaculture.
The ten fishing companies signed up to SeaBOS are probably not household names to consumers, but their products are found all over the world, and make up more than one-third of the revenue of the top 100 seafood companies. Among the companies are Marine Harvest, Cermaq, Cargill Aqua Nutrition and Nutreco (parent company of the feed producer Skretting).
