Skretting CEO Therese Log Bergjord to join Norway launch of Ocean Panel action agenda
2 December 2020
The High Level Panel for a Sustainable Ocean Economy (Ocean Panel) today launched the ocean action agenda, committing to sustainable ocean management to solve global challenges. Tomorrow, national launches will be held around the world, and Therese Log Bergjord, SeaBOS Chairperson and Skretting CEO will join the launch event in Norway, opened by Prime Minister of Norway, Erna Solberg.
The ocean is central to life on earth, peoples’ livelihoods and the economy, but the health of the ocean is at risk from pressures such as pollution, overfishing and climate change. The transformative set of recommendations in the report aim to deliver a sustainable ocean economy to benefit people and effectively protect the ocean.
If implemented, the ocean action agenda released by the leaders of Australia, Canada, Chile, Fiji, Ghana, Indonesia, Jamaica, Japan, Kenya, Mexico, Namibia, Portugal and Palau can help produce as much as 6 times more food from the ocean, generate 40 times more renewable energy, lift millions of people out of poverty, and contribute one-fifth of the GHG emissions reductions needed to stay within 1.5°C.
Our CEO and SeaBOS Chair Therese Log Bergjord will be joining the launch event in Norway, hosted by the Prime Minister of Norway Erna Solberg together with other leaders in the Norwegian ocean economy. As ocean stakeholders in the sustainable seafood industry, Skretting supports the 100% approach outlined in the report.
“We welcome government leadership on ocean governance,” says Log Bergjord. “For aquaculture, it is crucial to put in place frameworks that we can work within. Serious companies want good regulation based on science. It is clear from the report that sustainable seafood is part of the solution to a sustainable ocean economy.”
