Are circular economy principles applied to aquaculture feeds?

Yes. Aquaculture feeds can use suitable by-products and side streams from seafood, agriculture and other food-production systems. Before use, these ingredients must meet nutritional, quality, safety, regulatory and availability requirements.

Using these materials can reduce waste and broaden the range of ingredients available for feed. Their environmental performance depends on factors including processing, allocation, transport, geography and the lifecycle methodology applied; circular origin alone does not demonstrate a lower environmental footprint.
