Employee Highlight - Jeremiah Kerr

Every quarter we highlight some of our talented colleagues who have impressed us along the way with their sought-after skills, experience, and knowledge of the industry. For this quarter of the employee highlight series, we’re featuring Jeremiah Kerr, Quality Assurance Supervisor at our Canada East office. Jeremiah has been with Skretting for over 13 years and currently oversees all QC operations for St. Andrews.

Tell us a little about yourself.

I grew up in New Brunswick, on a farm in the country, with my parents and three sisters. After high school I attended NBCC, first taking International Business, followed by Limited Masters (Captains License with Passengers) after graduating NBCC I moved to Grand Manan where I  then began my career in the aquaculture industry. After a few years on Grand Manan I moved back to the mainland to be with my future wife. I’m the father to two beautiful girls; both my kids are very heavily involved in sports (at a provincial level).  My family is very active we enjoy camping, skiing, and skating outdoors. As for me I find great joy in swimming, biking, and running. I’m always competing in local and provincial races. We also produce maple syrup on our property.   

How long have you worked at Skretting?

I have been employed with Skretting for 13 years.

What is your role and responsibilities at Skretting?

My role at Skretting is Quality Assurance Supervisor. I oversee all QC operations for St. Andrews; such as, food safety, RCX improvements, and continuous improvement for all products and services, and ensuring internal and external audits are completed. Above all ensuring our product is always meeting standards and giving support and direction for continuous improvement. 

What aspects of your role do you enjoy the most?

I enjoy building and coaching our local QA team and learning new things. As well as collaborating with knowledgeable colleagues to oversee that a high-quality product is being produced, along with ensuring that positive outcomes are always being met.  

What do you consider a fulfilling workday?

A fulfilling workday for me is when I can complete all of the items on my daily task list and my day runs smoothly.

What do you enjoy doing in your free time?

I enjoy activities with my family; such as, camping, fishing, making maple syrup, running, and training for triathlons.

What’s a fun fact about yourself?

I have competed in two Half Ironman races (triathlon) and I’m working towards competing in a full ironman in the summer of 2022.

What kind of fish would you like to be if you could choose?

If I could be a fish I would be a Moorish idol because they are very beautiful and are found in tropical waters. Most importantly they are not fish people eat.
