Skretting publishes its Impact Report 2025, highlighting progress on responsible sourcing, climate action and innovation
Today, Skretting announced the release of its Impact Report 2025, which looks at performance across several core pillars in its sustainability journey: Ingredients, climate and environment, good citizenship and livelihoods, and animal welfare. Building on the broader impact reporting already published by its parent company, Nutreco, Skretting’s Impact Report takes a deeper look at how these commitments translate into measurable impact within the aquaculture sector. Besides including key indicators which convey how much progress was made - and where the company fell short - the report also showcases a tapestry of stories from across Skretting’s local markets, as well as external views from stakeholders. Together, these provide a holistic view of what Skretting has done in 2025 to advance the aquaculture industry from the inside out, while continuing to strengthen collaboration across the value chain.
Highlights from 2025
In 2025, Skretting:
- Launched new global nutritional solutions to support sustainable performance and resilience for fish and shrimp, including NutriPond, Necto, Lorica and Optiline.
- Achieved 88% of marine ingredients being certified or from a fishery improvement project (FIP).
- Reached compliance for 97% of global soy purchases with an intermediary goal toward 100% deforestation-free soy.
- Received the ESG Transparency Award for the Impact Report for the second consecutive year.
- Reached over 30% women in leadership positions.
- Made 96% of packaging easily recyclable.

Innovation with impact and customer intimacy
The responsible and efficient production of farmed fish and shrimp begins with trying to do more with less. With a view to improving efficiency for farmers and also within its operations, these were some of the innovations that Skretting implemented in 2025:
- For the first time ever, proprietary EDGEOS PhytoComplexes were introduced in Skretting’s diets
In direct response to customer needs, Nutreco Exploration and Skretting partnered to develop PhytoComplexes, plant-based extracts that are carefully selected and formulated to address complex challenges in animal health and performance. Also developed with sustainability in mind, PhytoComplexes rely on whole plants grown with minimal inputs, low-energy drying and efficient logistics, resulting in low inclusion levels as well as reduced processing and waste. These PhytoComplexes were brought to market in 2025, and incorporated into several new Skretting diets.
- Operational improvements were made in several facilities, lowering climate impact
A new electric boiler system was commissioned to replace an old gas boiler at Skretting’s plant in Tasmania, while upgrades took place at the plant in Italy with new photovoltaic panels installed. The teams in Skretting Canada also partnered with local energy providers to uncover new ways to reduce their operational footprints. Besides unlocking improved energy performance across these sites, these actions also demonstrated Skretting’s commitment to environmental stewardship.
- Key improvements were made to Skretting’s automated product footprint tool, SKAILA
SKAILA plays a central role in supporting customer disclosures, and with the improvements made the company is now able to analyse footprints at the level of specific feeds and individual products. Skretting is also able to include breakdowns by raw material groups, their inclusion levels, life cycle stages, and emission types. This level of detail improves transparency and understanding, supports learning across the value chain, and enables more informed decisions to be made.
- An automated feeding pilot project was launched in the large-pond shrimp farming industry of China’s Bohai Bay
The Skretting 360+ project team wanted to maximise feeder coverage in an area that was previously heavily reliant on manual feeding. Using automated feeding systems to disperse feed particles evenly over a wide area of the pond would help to reduce feeding competition, decrease feed waste, and optimise growth rates. Supported by Skretting’s teams in China, Latin America and India, the pilot programme was a success – the client reported a substantial increase in biomass, while stable water quality was maintained. It is estimated that full-scale implementation across the client’s operations would significantly improve feed efficiency.
