Feed setup

Feed is an important factor highly influencing the growth of fish and shrimp. Animals have different nutritional requirements and appetite at different size and weather conditions, so AquaSim allows users to set up complex and dynamic feed plans. Feed plan is also required when setting up the site and production group in 'My Site' module. In 'Feed setup' module, you can set up and make changes to feed plan and feed line.

Feed setup structure

A feed plan needs to contain at least one feed line, namely base feed line; or more feed lines could be prioritised with different feed plan rules.

A feed line is usually a product line, which consists of the feeds from the same product family, but different in pellet sizes and suitable for different weights of the animals. Feed items are set up by Skretting administrators in advance, so please contact your local representatives if there is any question.

Feed line

There are feed lines available from Masterdata, but you can create company specific feed lines in this module, meaning the feed line is only available for this company. First, create a feed line that contains all the feed for different size of the animals throughout the production cycle. Fill in the name of the feed line, country (where the feed line will be applicable) and select the species and feed origin (the countries where the feeds for the feed line are produced) in the drop down menu.

A feed line needs to have feeding schema to be used in AquaSim. Click the symbol imagewp4hk.png to edit feeding schema for a specific feed line. Click 'Add feedingschema' to add new feed. Select the feed with correct pellet size in the drop down menu of item name, and the options available are the feeds from the countries defined in feed origin for this feed line. Then decide the start weight for using such feed and complete the feeding schema by adding more feeds for other start weights if necessary.

Feed plan

Feed plan decides when to feed the animals what feed, and with feed plan rules, it is possible to set up complex and dynamic feed plan to achieve optimal growth.

Feed plan is company-specific, meaning only the users in the same company can see the feed plans created for this company. Feed plan is also country- and species-related, so users can only find the feed lines with corresponding country and species when adding feed line(s) to a specific feed plan. So make sure to select correct country and species in the drop down menu when creating a new feed plan. Once the feed plan has a feed line, it is not possible to edit the country and species fields.

For each feed plan, there needs to be at least one feed line. It is possible to only use one feed line. The first feed line added to a feed plan is called ‘base feed line’, and in this case, AquaSim will only use the feeds from this one single feed line based on the weight of the animals.

It is also possible to create more complex feed plans where the feed recommendations are based on date, production day or environmental parameters. To do so, set up and prioritise feed plan rules to use different feeds under different circumstances.

  1. Set up the base feed line. The first feed line added to a feed plan will be the 'base feed line' and it has the lowest priority.
  2. Add other feed plan rules using the selectors of 'date', 'day' and 'environmental parameters'. For example, when adding a feed plan rule of using feed line HT when the water temperature is higher than 30 degree celsius, AquaSim will use the feed based on the animal weight from feed line HT when the temperature is higher than 30 degree celsius.image8wj2.png

Pulse plan

Pulse plan provides the possibility to use alternating diets with iterative feeding schedule, meaning switching to another feed line for a certain period with a fixed interval. In the example below, pulse diet will be used for 1 weeks, and then the following 2 weeks will fall back to the alternate diet. Pulse plan is company-specific, so it needs to be set up for each company. Date- and day-related feed plan rules can be combined with pulse plan.  Pulse plan new.png
