The Skretting matrix

To identify and collaborate with high-potential suppliers of novel ingredients, we use the Skretting Matrix—a strategic tool aligned with our sustainability strategy. It helps assess and prioritise suppliers based on three key pillars: sustainability, ingredient performance, and supplier capabilities.

The Skretting matrix distinguishes between two key levels of criteria:

  • Ticket to play: These criteria represent the essential requirements that suppliers must meet to enter the aquaculture feed market. They include critical elements such as reducing carbon footprint (Scope 1 and 2), meeting nutritional and regulatory standards, and ensuring supplier capabilities like quality certifications (e.g., FAMI-QS, ISO 9001) and financial security. These are the non-negotiable standards for market entry.
  • Ticket to stay: These criteria reflect ongoing requirements for suppliers to remain competitive and relevant in the long term. Factors such as innovation capability, contribution to the circular economy, scalability potential, and the right competence mix ensure that suppliers can grow with the industry, respond to market changes, and deliver long-term value.

The matrix provides a structured approach to ensure we focus on the right opportunities while supporting emerging suppliers who has the aspiration to enter the aquaculture marked. By aligning with both foundational and aspirational criteria, the matrix helps us identify and collaborate with high-potential suppliers that align with our sustainability and innovation goals.
