Nordic African summit
19 November 2018

On November 8, Skretting participated in the Nordic-African Business Summit 2018 in Oslo, Norway. The Summit brought together distinguished speakers, including H.E. Patrice Talon President of Benin, Ministers, Ambassadors and guests from the Nordic and African business communities.

Skretting was represented by Maria Angela Calmet, Project Manager Sustainability, Nutreco Africa.

The theme for this year's summit was The Blue Opportunity. "We hope that this summit will be a unique opportunity to network across blue industries … Everything we do, is connected to something blue. Be it water for hydropower, the blue sky and sun transformed to solar energy, aquaculture, the resources under the ocean surface, the ports and shipping companies who are moving 90 percent of the continent's import and export on African waters" says Eivend Fjeldstad, Managing Director, Nordic-African Business Association

H.E. Patrice Talon, President of Benin, stated that Africa is attractive for investment opportunities. He stressed the need to change the negative perception of Africa, a perception that does not reflect the continent's reality. In his speech, he indicated that this negative perception slows down investments, opportunities and development and encouraged Nordic companies to keep investing in Africa.

Skretting welcomed the opportunity to join and talk about the work we do in Africa to the Nordic and African communities. Calmet participated in the session "Agrivision: Where is the potential in Africa?" together with South Africa's Investment Envoy Mr. Bcebisi Jonas, Norfund and Akvaplan-niva AS. There we shared our experience and what we expect in the upcoming future for the aquaculture and fish feed industry in Africa. A Q&A session followed the presentations.

The Summit was organised by The Norwegian-African Business Association (NABA). NABA seeks to promote business opportunities on the African continent and serve as a bridge between Norwegian and African business communities.
