Nutra for tilapia

Benefits

  • Promotes easy acceptance of dry feed
  • High survival during first 3 weeks in hatchery
  • Promotes fast and uniform growth in nursery
  • Better growth and feed efficiency beyond juvenile stage

Life start sets life performance

Nutra has been developed by Skretting Aquaculture Innovation (AI) and is based on three key principles:

  • Digestible protein
  • Digestible energy
  • Feed technology

In these specialised feeds, both the digestible protein and digestible energy are adjusted according to fish size. As body size increases, the percentage of digestible protein needed for optimal growth decreases along with it.

Nutra comes as crumbles for tilapia larvae and fry; and as floating micropellets for fingerlings.

Feeding Nutra

Nutra for tilapia comes in 4 particle sizes for larvae, fry, fingerlings and juvenile stages:

  • Nutra 0 for tilapia of 0-0.5 grams
  • Nutra 80 for tilapia of 0.5-2.5 grams
  • Nutra 120 for tilapia of 2.5-10 grams
  • Nutra 160 for tilapia of 10-25 grams and transfer to grow out

Feeding Nutra can lead to more fish and more uniform growth. Feeding Nutra which contains Protec, Skretting's specialised functional feed for tilapia, can reduce stress and improve the immune system of tilapia larvae. The result is a very high fry survival rate.

A constant supply of Nutra provides fry with equal opportunity to feed, resulting in size uniformity within the batch.

From egg to fingerling

When tilapia eggs hatch, the larvae rely on the yolk sac to provide the nutritional needs before they begin feeding. The larvae are vulnerable to starvation and need to feed continuously during this period. In nature, there isn't always a constant supply of feed and many fry will die during this first stage of life.

In hatcheries however, sufficient amounts of high quality starter feeds can be continuously supplied, providing all fry with an equal opportunity to feed and ensuring a very high survival rate. From egg to fingerling To create a product that meets the demands of the hatcheries, Skretting has developed and validated a variety of starter feeds. During research activities, focus was placed on finding the optimal particle size and nutritional requirements for each life stage from egg to fingerling to ensure efficient feeding and high growth from the very start. This resulted in four feeds differing in size, feed technology and nutritional composition: this is Nutra.

Digestible protein and specific growth rate

The results of trials conducted by Skretting ARC indicate a clear effect of digestible protein on specific growth rate. Increasing the digestible protein in the feed results in improved growth rate until a certain point.

Nutra was formulated based on these results to provide the precise digestible protein content required for the highest growth.

Improving survival

Trial results demonstrated that fish fed Nutra have a very high survival rate. Fish of 0.7-2.0 gram and fish of 2 -10 gram had a survival rate of 99% and 89% respectively.
