Acting towards a sustainable future

Thalia Vounaki, Senior Manager, Research and Data, Coller FAIRR

Since 2021, Thalia Vounaki has led the Coller FAIRR Protein Producer Index, a ground-breaking benchmark of 60 of the world's largest producers of beef, dairy, pork, poultry and farmed fish. She oversees the data collection, analysis process and research development on companies' ESG performance on the ten most material risk and opportunity factors, spanning from climate action, biodiversity, biosecurity and natural human capital. Investors use the findings to help their investment decisions and stewardship priorities, while companies use the assessments to shape their corporate practices.

Prior to joining FAIRR, Thalia headed the data analysis team at the Principles for Responsible Investment, launching a responsible investment data-sharing platform among investors, producing ESG industry trend reports and helping investors learn from their peers via accessible insights and best practices. Thalia has been exposed to the agricultural sector on multiple fronts. She conducted a gap analysis between allocated water rights and actual agricultural and inland aquaculture water usage during the dry season in Tanzania. Subsequently, she worked as a groundwater modeller for the British Geological Survey, surveying the national farmers’ union to improve forecasting of groundwater flooding. As a sustainability manager at Asda, she piloted the environmental reporting platform for Asda’s UK food suppliers and proposed a climate resilience strategy based on governmental and economic factors.
